Self-Leveling Underlayments and Overlayments
Self-Leveling products are more often than not, quite foreign to most clients. Actually, they are very old technology. They were originally designed in Germany in the late 1940's to repair concrete floors with severe spalds on
the rebuild of Germany after WWII.

Before
The products were designed to be a fast track and provide an alternative to rippling out old or damages concrete floors and replace that damage. Technology has changed dramatically with these products since they were brought here to the U.S. in the 1970's.

After
Self Levelers were comprised of a Polymer Modified Portland material that is mixed and applied to a prepared surface. They are then gauge raked and smoothed. Normal thicknesses are at approximately 1/4" - 3/8". However, some products can be feathered to meet
an adjacent surface or with the addition of gravel, it can be raised to 5". We also work with a new technology of Self-leveler initially from Sweden. These products are a Calcium aluminates which loss some of the adverse effects of a Polymer Modified Portland. Some of these
manufacturers fall under the "Green" category. With this product we can provide our clients with a concrete floor over an existing wooden substrate at only 5?8" thick. With our proprietary technique of doing this, the application is less likely to crack as opposed
to going over a concrete substrate. If you have an old structure and do not have the budget to install new steel beams or joisting, this process will allow the floor to come in at Four Lbs. per square foot at 1/4" thick. The traditional concrete will fall in at approximately
24 Lbs. per square foot at 2" thick.
We can use these products to re-level or repair your existing concrete surfaces prior to completing out finishing process. We here at The Concrete Impressionist depend on theses products to create our canvas to which we begin our magic.
